Overview:
Iodosorb ointment is a sterile formulation of cadexomer iodine. When applied to the wound, Iodosorb cleans it by absorbing fluids, removing exudate, pus and debris and forming a gel over the wound surface. As the ointment swells, iodine is released, killing bacteria in the wound. Iodosorb is indicated for the treatment and healing of chronic ulcers.
Directions for use:
Gently take off the existing dressing, which should be moistened with saline if it is tending to adhere to the wound surface. Remove any remaining Iodosorb with a gentle stream of saline or sterile water if applicable. Gently blot away any excess fluid before re-applying Iodosorb. Open tube and squeeze ointment on to a non-adherent gauze to the shape of the ulcer and to a depth of 3 to 4 mm. Position the ointment face of the gauze on the wound surface and apply mild pressure to fix in place. For full details, refer to insert leaflet provided with the product.
